Josep Collado Landete, graduate in Environmental Sciences, Best Student Award Gandia Campus.
This recognition values both his academic performance and his personal commitment. “Receiving this award means a lot, I feel very proud and satisfied.” In addition, thanks to this award, he will continue his university career. “The money received – the prize is endowed with one thousand euros – is an incentive to continue my education,” Josep explains.
Graduated in Environmental Sciences, Josep Collado Landete has been distinguished as Best Student of the Higher Polytechnic School of Gandia in the XXIV edition of the Social Council Awards of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).
But this is not the only award he has received. Previously, in 2019, Josep was already awarded by the UPV after the result obtained in the Olimpiada Agroalimentaria y del Medio Natural (aimed at high school students). “It was an incentive to enter the Gandia campus,” he says, “thanks to aid like this and public scholarships I have been able to carry out my studies.”
Studying Environmental Sciences in Gandia
His interest in the environment was the driving force that led him to enroll in Environmental Sciences. “I was very clear that after completing the selective, I had to enroll in a career with these characteristics. They were weeks of great uncertainty, but in the end, the Gandia campus of the UPV was the best option because of the proximity to my town and the multidisciplinary nature of its curriculum,” explains Josep, “I am very happy to have carried out my studies at the EPSG, it is a small center and I have felt at home.”
As a student of the Gandia campus, Josep was awarded by the UPV with the prize for the Best Academic Record for first year students in 2021. Also, in 2022, in this case, with the award for second-year undergraduate students. “I have lived unique experiences on campus. Also, I’ve been able to do the externships I’ve always wanted and go on many field trips, which are a great support during the academic year.” In addition, “I have had the opportunity to meet great professionals and colleagues with whom I have learned to work as a team, to have confidence and respect for my work and that of others.”
So, if someone asks her about studying Environmental Science, her advice is clear: “participating in career activities is a great way to find out what areas you like more or less. That has been my experience.
Environmentalists, environmental professionals
After finishing his degree in Environmental Sciences, Josep is very clear about his next steps. “My priority is to continue my education with a university master’s degree” and then, “dedicate myself to research and do my doctorate in the field of wildlife conservation”.
For Josep, the new generations of environmentalists face a very important challenge. “We are experiencing a crisis of misinformation caused by negationist movements that question our work. And not only in the climate field, but also in the management of biological resources and even in environmental engineering. A future with more and more environmental problems requires immediate and appropriate decisions to be taken. To achieve this, we need a well-informed society that is capable of demanding action to prevent or reduce the damage caused by catastrophes such as the DANA of October 2024.
